Latmos House of Zeus

Latmos Mountain has one of the rare geological structures in the world with 8,500-year-old rock paintings.
The rock paintings are dated between 6,000 and 5,000 BC.
Mostly human images were drawn. People are not drawn individually, but in a way that reminds them of a family. Herakleia. The city had the Gulf of Latmos, which was an extension of the Aegean Sea in ancient times. However, as a result of being filled with alluviums brought by the Menderes River, the bay turned into today's Bafa Lake.
Herakleia Ancient City. The city took its name from the famous mythology hero Herakles. While its name was Latmos in the 8th century BC, it was taken over by Mausolos, the Satrap of Caria, during the Persian period. As a result of Alexander's Asian expedition, it came under the sovereignty of the Alexander Empire and later the Seleucids. Herakleia, which lost its former importance when it was cut off from the sea in the 1st century BC, became a hiding place for Christian monks due to difficulties in transportation. The ancient city, built on a very rugged and rocky terrain, is surrounded by a 6.5 kilometer long wall reinforced with 65 towers. Located on the rocky land behind the harbour, the Temple of Athena is one of the best preserved buildings in the city. It is a Hellenistic Age structure with two columns in the style of Templum in Antis. The agora located to the east of the Temple of Athena has two floors, and the first floor has survived today.
