Las Terrazas, Cuba | A story of nature’s rebirth

Located in western Cuba within the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve, Las Terrazas is a unique area where nature and humanity coexist in harmony.
Having lost much of its forest cover in the past due to coffee plantations and intensive logging, the region began to flourish once more thanks to a comprehensive reforestation and nature conservation project launched in 1968. The Las Terrazas community was established in 1971, and in 1985, Sierra del Rosario was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. 🌱
Today, with its lush forests, rich biodiversity, rivers, and mountainous landscapes, Las Terrazas stands as an inspiring example of nature’s power to regenerate and of sustainable living.
Here, every tree, every trail, and every verdant vista serves as a reminder that protecting nature is one of the finest legacies we can leave for the future. 💚

The Havana Tunnel under the Ocean

The only major structure in Cuba that passes under the ocean (under Havana Bay, which opens to the ocean) is the Tunnel of Havana in Havana.

Charging a camera in Cuba is very difficult and time-consuming; my camera's battery ran out on the road, so I took this photo with a Fuji Camera, which is why it's a bit grainy.

The Havana Tunnel under the Ocean

Key features of the Havana Tunnel are: Location: Located in Havana, the capital of Cuba, at the entrance to Havana Bay. Length: 733 meters long. Depth: Passes approximately 12-14 meters below the ocean floor. Passage: Serves as a road tunnel and connects the two main sides of the city.

Directly opposite the Yazilıkaya Monument is a massive rock mass with numerous eyes, known as the Kırkgöz Rockies. These rocks were used as multi-story rock settlements, churches, and tombs during the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. Inside the rocks are carved staircases used for passage between spaces.

Smyrna Agora, known as the world's largest ancient agora in the city center

2,500 years old

There are many water channels in the infrastructure of the Agora of Smyrna and two of them are still in operation. There are also springs in the city and settlement. In the Roman period, a canal was built to transport the water flowing from the springs to the lower districts of the city or to the districts where water was scarce. Today, water still flows from the canal that reaches the Agora. The water channel reached the street fountains or cisterns, thus making it accessible to the public.
