Smyrna Agora, known as the world's largest ancient agora in the city center
2,500 years old
There are many water channels in the infrastructure of the Agora of Smyrna and two of them are still in operation. There are also springs in the city and settlement. In the Roman period, a canal was built to transport the water flowing from the springs to the lower districts of the city or to the districts where water was scarce. Today, water still flows from the canal that reaches the Agora. The water channel reached the street fountains or cisterns, thus making it accessible to the public.
